Anki, 400 days in
2026-09-14
Streak hit 400 last week. I missed two days in March (flu) so the real number is a bit lower but the app says 400 and I'm not going to argue with it.
Some numbers from the stats screen:
| mature cards | 2 314 |
| young | 610 |
| retention (last month) | 87% |
| avg per day | ~22 min |
things I changed
I dropped the big premade core deck around day 150. It was fine but I kept learning words like 財政 (public finance) before words I actually needed. Now I add cards only from things I read or heard. Slower, but I remember them way better because there is a sentence attached in my head.
New cards per day went from 20 to 10. Reviews were eating 50+ minutes and I started to hate opening the app. 10 is boring but sustainable.
I turned off the reverse cards (english → japanese) for vocab. Kept them only for kanji writing, which I do on paper maybe twice a week. Honestly could drop that too.
things I didn't change
Still do reviews on the train in the morning. Still skip the audio on most cards, which I know is wrong.
upd: someone asked about FSRS. Yes, switched in May, desired retention 0.88. Did not notice a big difference except fewer reviews.
